Listening has been defined as a receptive skill so far, but seeing that English language learners in Turkey expend considerable effort to understand listening texts, it may be misleading view passive on part of learners. By means using strategies, become an active which orchestrate several cognitive processes. Therefore, this study was carried out look into Turkish students’ use strategies at the preparatory school public university Turkey. With purpose mind, The Metacognitive Awareness Questionnaire (Goh, 2008; Vandergrift et al., 2006) and retrospective accounts were used collect data from intermediate-level students. results indicate four subcategories appeared prefer two them, namely directed attention mental translation more than planning-evaluation problem solving strategies. In addition, they found have difficulty answering implicit questions verbalizing how answered them explicit questions. Possible reasons behind these findings might lack systematic strategy training for both teachers backwash effects tests familiarizing with improving tasks are suggested.
